In the comedy series The Office, David Brent thought cracking terrible jokes and making cringeworthy motivational speak was the best way to get the most out of his staff.

Now it has emerged that his deluded management style is actually being replayed by bosses in real-life places of work.

Most UK managers believe they excel at managing their staff – when in fact only a fraction are any good at it.
