Au pair in Ireland

May 30th, 2012

AU PAIR IN IRELAND was established in 2005 by Brazilian native Greyce Casara, who has lived in Ireland for ten years and is an Irish citizen. Before starting a degree in Tourism, in 1997, she did an exchange year in Canada and has over 15 years of experience in business, having worked for a major airline company and as Corporate Account Manager in the sector of Tourism Business.

The inspiration to establish an au pair agency came in 2003, when her cousin from Rio de Janeiro confided of her a willingness to study and work abroad. To help her, Greyce began to research the market and contacted several Irish families, highlighting the advantages of hiring a Brazilian for the job – something which was realatively unheard of at the time.

Soon, she received many proposals from interested parents and managed to find a placement for not only her cousin, but for other relatives and friends too. At this point, Greyce saw a business opportunity, using her experience of Irish and Brazilian culture to the provide a unique childcare service.

Today, AU PAIR IN IRELAND is proud to have registered over three thousand Irish families, who have recognized her dedication and efficiency in providing them with the best childcare solutions.

Glendalough – Wicklow

May 30th, 2012

A glacial valley located in Wicklow, approximately 50km from Dublin city centre, Glendalough, besides being a place of magnificent scenery, offers a rich heritage in terms of history, monuments, archeology, architecture, flora and fauna.

The valley was carved by glaciers during the Ice Age, and the two lakes of Glendalough were formed when the ice finally melted. One of them – Lough Tay – is known as Guinness Lake, because of its dark peaty water and the white sand on the edge create a striking similarity to a pint of Guinness.

Considered one of the most beautiful and visited tourist sites in Ireland, Glendalough is home to one of the most important monasteries in Ireland. Founded in the 6th century by St Kevin, the “city” now consists of monastic ruins and it is located next to the smaller lake, right at the beginning of the valley.

The valley offers water sports, climbing and fishing, and there are walking trails to guide visitors around the site. There are nine trails in total, marked with colored arrows, which identify the types of paths. The walks range from simple 30 minutes to 4 long hours uphill! And the view is just fantastic!

There is no public transport (Dublin bus or Dart) to get into the valley. The options are tour buses (which cost about €20) or car!

But don’t worry, The Carlyle Institute is organizing a trip there! The school is offering the trip for € 5, including the bus and a lunch pack! The tour will be on 08/06/12 (Friday) at 9.30am from Grafton Street and the return at 5pm.

Seats are limited, so hurry and guarantee yours!

How to prepare your CV

May 24th, 2012

Building a CV is often an arduous task. Sometimes we do not know what information is essential and what is unnecessary and if we should “add” some knowledge and experience – which can make it easier to get a job.

One thing is for certain: the CV has to be focused on your desired job.

It does not matter if you worked as a journalist, publicist, lawyer or doctor in your hometown, if you are going to apply for a job as a waiter or cleaner, many of the same rules apply! Put your experiences in the kitchen and cleaning at your own house if necessary, but make sure you show that you are qualified for the position desired.

The basics details for the CV are:

Personal Details
Objective
Education
Experience
Aditional Information/skills/interests
References

NOTE: It is interesting to add additional information such as other skills and interests. But, be careful with what you write! This can also be instrumental in the decision of the employer.

Here are two samples a good CV:
